The Swedish power provider has agreed a deal worth around SEK850 million with Spanish information technology company Telvent to supply, install and operate electricity meters in the household of its yet-to-be upgraded Swedish customers.
The next generation meters, which can be remotely read, form part of a five year plan to upgrade Vattenfall’s entire 850,000 strong customer network to up-to-date metering technology. The upgrade is slated for completion in 2008.
The latest deal will involve Telvent supplying 300,000 meters while also providing reading and reporting services for five years.
The new meters meet not only our basic demands in that they provide correct metered values for billing based on actual consumption, they also offer several new interesting functions such as remote control, output control and various forms of quality control. This procurement satisfies our remaining need for electricity meters, said Goran Lundgren, managing director of Vattenfall Eldistribution.
