UB Networks Inc has launched the latest in its series of GeoLAN products, part of the company’s strategy for recovery. The Port Mobile Ethernet Concentrator is a 24-port module that supports port switching for the GeoLAN/500 NonStop Super Switching Hub. The Tandem Computers Inc company claims that it provides the capability to assign ports individually to any of 12 MultiLAN Ethernet segments via software, cutting the cost of moves, adds and changes and enabling policy-based techniques for performance optimization. Each GeoLAN/500 supports up to 11 Mobile Ethernet modules, providing up to 264 Ethernet ports. Combining the Port Mobile Ethernet Concentrator with GeoLAN/500 CenterSwitch architecture, says the company, enables communication between each of the 12 independent Ethernet segments, enabling inter- segment communication and managing throughput. In addition to port-switching, the Mobile Ethernet module provides two levels of Ethernet security and statistics gathering and reporting capabilities. It features hot-swap capability and has a rear- access cabling system that enables modules to be removed without disconnecting cables. The Mobile Ethernet module is claimed to simplify network management by providing an electronic patch panel for the Ethernet nodes. Port Mobile Ethernet Concentrator management is integrated into UB Networks’s NetDirector management system and Virtual Network Architecture. The 24-port Mobile module is out now for $4,000.
