Sounds as if it may be just the thing that many people are looking for: Torrance, California-based Trend Micro Devices Inc has launched PC-cillin version 3.0, describing it as a comprehensive anti-virus program for MS-DOS micros that prevents all know virus infections and, perhaps more importantly, has been designed to detect and prevent undiscovered viruses – its scan program searches for viruses on all hard drives, conventional and extended memory, boot sector, .EXE and .COM files, and floppy disks; it also has intelligent on-line viral filters that are set to search constantly for symptoms of virus activity to prevent unknown viruses from infecting the micro or the local network; the company says the filter automatically detects boot sector viruses at the initial access of floppies that are inserted into any drive, quarantining each floppy disk and intercepting viruses before they infest the system – and will continue to detect even undiscovered boot sector viruses, without relying on scan pattern updates; Command line options enable automatic batch-mode scans, configurable options provide customised virus warning messages, and a comprehensive scan detects over 700 known viruses; it includes a hardware immuniser box that provides automatic boot sector damage recovery; it lists for $149, and free updates are provided for one year from Trend’s Bulletin Board.
