Identity works by embedding user and device credentials into network traffic, allowing access to be enforced and audited and gateways in the network.

As vice president of marketing Rob Ciampa put it what we’ve effectively done is add an identity layer to the protocol stack.

This is achieved with software agents that embed in the endpoints. In version 2.5, agents are now also available for Citrix and Windows terminals, and Intel-based Macs.

TNT says it has also upped the scalability of the system to 100,000 nodes, with one Fortune 5 customer already but having mainly targeted department-level deployments at large companies. The system starts at $15,000.

With regulatory compliance a hot topic in many enterprises, TNT has also updated the auditing capabilities of Identity in version 2.5, by increasing the granularity of reports, and by allowing data to be mined based on network protocol.
