Thorn EMI’s Datatech Ltd subsidiary has come out with a new lowend IBM NetBIOScompatible local area network for all XT or ATbus MSDOS micros, with the launch of its Telan. The network boards fit into personal computer’s expansion slots, and are used with a memoryresident utility program; Telan enables users to transfer files, send electronic mail, and share printers and disk space, and also enables network servers to operate as workstations. Feltham, Middlesex-based Datatech is targetting the new product at small companies, branch offices and departments whose computing requirements are limited to around a dozen personal computers. A Telan starter pack, consisting of two boards and the software, costs UKP390: the connection of each additional workstation costs another UKP190.
