Thales UK, a subsidiary of electronics and systems group Thales, has won a £5m contract from EDF Energy to provide communication and information services.
EDF Energy, one of the UK’s largest energy companies, said it was looking to deploy the latest emergency response capabilities after testing its fleet of UK nuclear power stations against extreme weather conditions.
Thales, which will provide five sets of containerised DCIS by March 2014, said its communication and information system monitors plant systems and data through a network, allowing operators to analyse data quickly.
As a result, decision makers will have access to the necessary data in the event of an emergency.
Phil Naybour, VP of Communications and Information Systems at Thales UK, said it will enhance the safety of nuclear power plants.
Thales UK secured a five-year contract from the UK’s Department for Business Innovation & Skills (BIS) to offer network connectivity services in May 2013.
