Palo Alto-based Teleview Research Inc has announced immediate availability of five new OEM digital video products for developers of communications products. They include circuit board colour digital video camera components, Camera 1 and Camera 2, and colour digital video developer kits, CAMKIT I, II and III. The products are claimed to put most of the camera’s functions and features onto chips under software control, offering the ability to capture images digitally directly at the source for the first time. The company claims that by providing digital video camera functionality within chip sets rather than mechanically, it can provide products that are half the size and price of other analogue and digital processor video cameras. Teleview’s two camera models for the OEM market are Camera 1, Model CDMC-270D8-1, a one piece, board-level colour digital video camera module and Camera 2, CDMC-270D8-2, a two piece, board-level colour digital video camera module. The two models have the same basic functionality, but are designed for different form factors. The company has also launched three digital video camera development tool kits: CAMKIT I, CAMKIT II and CAMKIT III. CAMKIT I is designed specifically for advanced video engineers, and supports the creation of advanced technology demonstrations and products without analogue-to-digital conversion at the host. CAMKIT II is designed for interfacing Teleview’s colour digital video camera to any personal computer-based host computer or system. The company claims it integrates seamlessly with the digital computing environment by capturing images as digital data. CAMKIT III, says Teleview, provides a complete system for multimedia product developers. It comes with output for S-Video that interfaces to VCRs, RGB that interfaces with most colour computer monitors and composite video and audio. All Teleview’s CAMKITs are available with either the Camera 1, single board or Camera 2, dual board colour digital video camera chips. Teleview currently has OEM agreements for its colour digital video cameras and chip sets with Silicon Graphics Inc, Logitech Inc and Comtech Labs Inc. Camera 1 and Camera 2 are $500 each. CAMKIT I is $900; CAMKIT II is $1,300 and CAMKIT III is $2,000.
