Telefonica Global Solutions, part of the Telefonica Group, has selected networking firm Cisco’s CRS-3 and ASR9000 to upgrade its its Internet Protocol Next-Generation Network.
Deployment of the Cisco CRS-3 and ASR 9000 Series routers will deliver an enhanced capacity, higher resiliency and improved IPv6 support, the company said.
Both the Cisco CRS and ASR 9000 Series utilise the modular Cisco IOS XR software operating system, which simplifies network operations and enable system redundancy and network resiliency, it added.
The upgraded network is claimed to support new revenue generating services and help Telefónica to meet the needs of its global customer base, including those in America, Asia and Europe.
Cisco CRS is a multi-chassis core router that features over 8,000 systems deployed and nearly 1,000 multi-chassis configurations and the new elastic core application capabilities allow it to add a second chassis without the space and cost of a separate fabric chassis.
It also offers the possibility of future upgrading capacity for its core network with upto 400 Gbps per slot capability core application to improve the return on investment for its core network.
The Cisco IP NGN application is fully IPv6 compliant, helping to ensure that Telefonica is prepared to meet customer demand for IPv6-based services.
Cisco High-end Routing and Optical Group vice president and general manager Bill Gartner said the Cisco CRS family is designed to grow such that it can operate for decades while providing enhanced performance.
"Its 400 Gbps per slot multichassis scalable design provides a foundation for customers on which they can continue to expand. Telefonica can look forward to continued growth while lowering operational costs," Gartner said.
