Racal Electronics Plc has decided to restructure its data security businesses by merging both Racal-Guardata and Racal Transcom into the Racal Data Group. The company says it wants to integrate data security facilities into all its systems, in particular going after electronic funds transfer at point of sale applications. Racal-Guardata specialises in developing and selling data security hardware systems to financial markets, the control of access to computer systems and authentication, while Racal-Transcom’s work is in credit card control and funds transfer. Racal-Guardata and Racal-Transcom’s major customers are international network operators and financial institions; Racal claims that the Data Group will have 100,000 customers as a result of the reorganisation and combination.
