Flash memory storage services firm SanDisk has acquired caching software products firm FlashSoft to extend its enterprise solid state disk drive (SSD) applications portfolio.
SanDisk intends to sell FlashSoft’s products as standalone software and also in combination with SanDisk’s portfolio of SAS, PCIe and SATA enterprise services.
FlashSoft’s software will form the basis of an ecosystem of SSD-optimised software services from SanDisk and third party partners, enabling the configuration of complete applications optimised for the needs of enterprise and cloud customers.
The SSD-based caching services places frequently accessed data near to the CPU in flash memory, resulting in application performance increases.
FlashSoft’s software applications enable flash products, such as SanDisk’s Lightning Enterprise SSDs and PCIe-based devices, to be configured as high-performance cache for their HDD storage.
SanDisk president and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said the acquisition of FlashSoft represents an important step in SanDisk’s strategy of delivering complete SSD and software solutions to enterprise storage customers
