Ottawa, Canada-based Rebel.com Inc has become the first company to offer a server based on Corel Corp’s NetWinder platform. Rebel changed its name from Hardware Canada Computing after acquiring the NetWinder division from Corel in January 1999 (CI No 3,580). In return for its hardware business, Corel took a 25% stake in the company.

Based on the StrongARM microprocessor and Linux operating system, the NetWinder Office Server is designed to be used as an office- in-a-box for small and medium-sized enterprises. It handles secure internet access, web site hosting, file and print sharing and email. Rebel plans to sell the server through internet service providers, value added resellers and direct sales from August 1999. Pricing has yet to be determined.
