Shares in Pace Micro Technology Plc jumped 11% to 45 pence on Thursday morning, following the news yesterday that its set top boxes will be used by Web TV, the Microsoft Corp subsidiary, in UK trials. Microsoft has teamed up with British Telecommunications Plc to trial WebTV services across Britain in around 500 homes, BT said yesterday. Two hardware manufacturers have been selected to join the trial, Pace Micro and Philips Consumer Electronics. It’s a welcome lift for Pace, which announced interim losses of 12m pounds in January, leading to cost cutting measures which will reduce the workforce by 15%. Before the troubles started, its shares were trading as high as 240 pence.
