North Sky Inc, the Provo, Utah-based holding company that owns the FreeServers.com personal web site service and Global Servers business web hosting site, has acquired all the rights for what it calls next generation instant messaging technology from another Provo-based company, Lagom Inc. It plans to offer an instant messaging service for its freeservers.com users within two months. The site currently hosts more than 40,000 free web sites and offers users design tools for building the sites.

North Sky, previously known as Direct-Connect, now has 22 staff, up from only eight in April, and is in the process of moving from Provo to Orem to accommodate them. The company, which was founded in 1995 is headed by president and CEO, Hal Halliday. It originally worked on custom projects for companies such as 3Com Corp, Novell Inc, Silicon Graphics Inc and Platinum Technologies Inc.
