Under a new initiative that is aiming to turn research into a material reality, 29 bidders including NHS Innovations Hubs, were awarded cash from the government’s Public Sector Research Exploitation.
According to Public Technology, NHS Innovations Hubs were set up by the Department of Health and co-funded by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Regional Development Agencies. Working alongside regional partners in universities and research organizations, the Hubs are designed to support local NHS inventors in devising advanced medical equipment and services.
Amongst those receiving rewards were Chelsea & Westminster Healthcare NHS Trust, NHS Innovations South East, NHS Innovations South West, Health Enterprises East TrusTech, and Mediplex led by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
The new funds are expected to expand activities across the relevant trusts, and open up new opportunities for the manufacture and commercial development of medical devices and procedures.
