Mozy, an online backup service from EMC, has launched MozyConnect, a fully integrated backup service that simplifies the disaster recovery and business continuity plans of small businesses through a hybrid approach.

A ‘hybrid’ approach combines both the local and online backup approaches that reduce the overhead and administrative costs traditionally required by tape-based backup.

The new method also combines data with the closeness of network-attached storage (NAS) onsite backup, and data backed up in the cloud.

MozyConnect provides hybrid approach by integrating MozyPro with NAS vendors to simplify a company’s data protection stack.

Further, MozyConnect is integrated with Cisco NSS300 Series Smart Storage and with Iomega StorCenter desktop and rackmount network storage devices, which gives users a fully integrated offering for backing up their business data locally on the device and online in Mozy’s secure datacentres.

Mozy product management vice president Russ Stockdale said as they continue to protect more and more businesses with MozyPro, they have heard the growing need to offer the hybrid approach.

"We’re excited that Cisco and Iomega are the first two network-attached storage providers to work with us to fill this need, and we look forward to adding more vendors to our MozyConnect service in the future," Stockdale said.
