Online television and movie streaming service Netflix said it suffered service disruptions yesterday evening, which prevented users from viewing content.
The company, which added 1.69 million users over the past three months despite price rises, tweeted that customers in nearly every geographical areas were experiencing streaming issues.
"We’re aware of the streaming issues on all devices in all regions except Europe. We’re investigating the issue. Thank you for your patience!" it said.
Customers complained that they were presented with a limited number of films and TV shows in stead of their normal selections, and couldn’t access the Netflix website.
Jessy Pants said in a tweet: "You guys having some kind of outage? Can’t stream on my TV, can’t get to your website."
The last significant service disruption occurred in 2012 when an outage in Amazon’s cloud services put Netflix’s streaming service out of service for several hours.
It comes as Netflix announced profits of $71m (£42m) in the second quarter of 2014, more than double that of the same period a year ago.
