Interxion, a European provider of carrier-neutral colocation data centre services, has expanded its second Dublin data centre.

Through this expansion, Interxion will add space in Dublin by nearly 25%, enable the company to continue to meet growing customer demand for colocation space and services, particularly from customers in the digital media, gaming and cloud computing sectors.

The expanded data centre will also increase the available power supply by an additional 1MW, which will address the current and future needs of companies running cloud-based applications or virtualised servers that require high-power-density deployments.

Interxion Ireland managing director Tanya Duncan said the investment represents the third expansion in the Dublin market in the past eighteen months, more than tripling their equipped space over that period.

"With access to over 26 communication networks as well as the INEX Internet exchange, our Dublin facilities provide an ideal environment for customer infrastructure as cloud-based delivery becomes even more widespread," Duncan said.

The expansion project is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2011.
