Intel Corp has formed a new business unit in order to focus on what it calls opportunities surrounding the internet. The new Communications Products Group is supposed to drive initiatives in networking and communications by combining the related hardware, software and support capabilities into a single organization. John Miner, former general manager of the Enterprise Service Group (ESG), has been appointed head of the new group. As proof that the company is serious about the new organization, Miner will report directly to Intel president and CEO Craig Barrett. Intel is organizing around internet opportunities in four key areas: clients, servers, network infrastructure and solutions and services, Barrett explained. To establish the Communications Products Group, Intel has combined the Communications and Internet Service Division that used to be part of the ESG, its Dialogic subsidiary, the Network Systems Division from the Network Communications Group and the Systems Management Division from the New Business Group.
