Its major thrust into US government computing has enabled IBM to trounce Unisys Corp in the US Federal market according to a survey done by Computer Intelligence. Three years ago, Sperry Corp was in top spot in the Federal market for mainframes and mid-size computers, but its successor, Unisys Corp has slumped to fourth place according to the poll of 3,600 Federal sites. Computer Intelligence reckons that IBM has 33% of the Federal hardware market, which it puts at $2,200m, with DEC second at 18%, Amdahl third with 13% and Unisys fourth with 11%. Among Fortune 1,000 companies it gives IBM 76%, DEC 9%, Amdahl 5% and Unisys 3%. In Fed micros, IBM has 57%, Zenith 22% and Apple just 2%.
