Under the terms of the contract, which is made up of a five-year base period and five option years, IBM will provide a range of services for the Defense Commissary Agency’s Commercial Advanced Resale Transaction System.
The agency, known as DeCA, controls a worldwide chain of operations providing groceries to military personnel, veterans, and their families. The new transaction applications will replace DeCA’s existing point-of-sales structure, and IBM’s work will include testing the new system prior to its integration.
Despite its leadership of the global IT services market, IBM has slipped to 14th place in Washington Technology’s 2005 list of the top 100 federal prime contractors. The company is ranked behind major rivals such as EDS and CSC.
