General Motors Corp’s Hughes Aircraft Co is prime contractor for a $53m contract from the US Army Strategic Defense Command for development, installation and integration of an Extended Air Defence Test Bed at two US sites: the test bed will enable the Army to simulate air defence and tactical missile defence systems realistically, and run complex enemy attack scenarios against them to evaluate the systems’ effectiveness, and will go in at Huntsville, Alabama and Fort Bliss, Texas with an optional site at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; subcontractors include TRW Inc, General Research Corp, CAS, CACI, Vanguard, Quantum, Messerschmitt – Bolkow – Blohm, Ferranti International Plc and the CoSyDe joint venture of Thomson-CSF SA and Aerospatiale SA of France with Selenia SpA, Italy.
