Huawei has announced its first foray into the wearable technology market with the release of the TalkBand B1, a fitness band targeted at consumers who love the outdoors.
First teased at MWC 2014 in February, the TalkBand B1 features a 1.4in backlit OLED display which is able to connect to compatible Android and iOS smartphones thanks to in-built Bluetooth 4.1 technology.
The device will be able to track your number of steps, how many calories you’ve burned, and even measure how well and how long you sleep, waking the user up with a silent vibrating alarm, with all the data synced directly to your smartphone or tablet.
Huawei is pitching the TalkBand B1 at consumers who love the great outdoors, highlighting the IP57 rating that makes it completely water and dust-proof, making it ideal for running, hiking or even swimming.
The device even comes with a detachable Bluetooth headset which allows you to make calls whilst on the move, provided you have your connected smartphone handy. If you happen to leave it behind when heading out, the TalkBand will alert you to this with another alarm.
It comes with a 90mAh cell battery which Huawei says can last for six days of regular use or 14 days when left on standby mode, whilst also providing seven hours of talk time.
However, Huawei is yet to reveal any details of pricing or a UK release date for the TalkBand B1, with more information set to be announced soon.
Earlier this month, the company laid out its vision for perfect design regarding its smartphone range, with lead Ascend P7 designer Joon Kim saying Huawei wanted customers to "fall in love" with their new devices.
The Chinese company also announced it is set to double its European workforce over the next five years, including a new R&D centre in Bristol, as it looks to gain a solid foothold in Western markets.
