Hewlett-Packard Co has extended its existing relationship with Stratus Computer Inc by making it a strategic member of its mission-critical computing program. The deal means that HP can use the Stratus Continuum Series hardware to extend its HP 9000 line into continuous availability systems for mission critical environments.

HP and Stratus have had a technology, reseller, service and licensing agreement in place since 1992, and the Stratus Continuum systems use HP’s PA-RISC chip and HP-UX operating system. Systems are binary and program interface compatible. HP customers can now buy direct from the HP sales force or HP channels, and either Stratus or HP can be a single point of contact for service.
