Hewlett-Packard Co has teamed up with SAS Institute Inc to offer a data mining service that will operate from SAS headquarters at Cary, North Carolina. The companies were declared as leaders in the data mining hardware arena by Meta Group Inc a couple of months ago and believe they are perfectly placed to offer customers a comprehensive package, tailored to their needs. Starting at $30,000, the service will see customers’ data being ‘mined’ on HP 9000 servers and a ready-to-use package delivered to them within around four to six weeks. The package will combine Hewlett-Packard’s consulting and integration services, along with the HP 9000 servers and its HP NetServer system, with SAS’s data mining software and knowledge. The companies have been working together as partners for the past 12 years and believe this is one of the more exciting projects they have worked on together. Hewlett-Packard says the financial services, telecommunications and retail sectors will be among the industries that will benefit.
