Hewlett-Packard Co has plunged into systems administration for its HP3000 business computers with a strategy designed to improve ease of use, quality and efficiency of operations; lower the cost of operating data centres; and incorporate software from independent software vendors. The company has also consolidated a number of existing HP3000 products under one systems- and network-management umbrella. The 10 new products are part of the NewWave Computing strategy, and include HP OpenView System Manager to run multiple networked HP3000s from one MS-DOS console; HP TurboStore/XL provides automated back-up; and HP SPU Switchover/XL automatically detects processor failures and initiates switchover to another HP3000/900; shipments begin June.
