Following announcement of its first Asychronous Transfer Mode interconnection for its HP 9000 Series 700 workstations (CI No 2,496) Hewlett-Packard Co has extended its agreement with Cisco Systems Inc, the company with which everyone seems to want to be friends, and the two say they plan to develop a broad and significant strategic marketing and technical alliance leading to co-developed products for Cisco’s 100VG-AnyLAN and Asynchronous Transfer Mode products. Cisco is accelerating its development of 100VG-AnyLAN 100Mbps fast Ethernet and Token Ring router interfaces for its Cisco 7000 and 4500 router families. Cisco will also work with Hewlett to build plug-in router modules using Cisco’s Internetwork Operating System for the Hewlett line of AdvanceStack stackable hubs, plugging directly into the expansion slot. The two companies will work on common open-architected internetworking software to ensure the highest level of interoperability and portability of functionality between their respective internetworking products, the pair said.
