Genesis Microchip Inc, a Toronto-based digital image chip specialist, has taken an equity position in Toronto-based start- up Shamrock Semiconductor, a newly formed IC chip design consulting service, which will be run by Genesis’ current vice president of research and development and chief technical officer, Lance Greggain. Genesis will take a 40% stake in the company, investing the equivalent of $350,000 in the company, matching Greggain’s own investment. Greggain will remain with Genesis until June, when the funding takes effect. Genesis has provided the advanced zoom scaling technology in Apple Computer Inc’s Studio Display flat panel active matrix liquid crystal monitor, and has also worked with Silicon Graphics Inc, Fujitsu Ltd and Intergraph Corp. It will begin the search for a new chief technology officer immediately.
