Fujitsu has released the new version of FlexFrame for Oracle, reportedly enabling enterprise customers to deploy Dynamic Infrastructures using Oracle technology. The company said that the new version integrates Oracle VM to provide availability across both physical and virtual servers.
The company noted that FlexFrame for Oracle provides a pre-integrated IT infrastructure that assigns server resources to Oracle services based on Oracle database, Oracle application servers or any other Oracle application. All Oracle software, plus the operating system, reside on a central storage system and can be started on any server in the FlexFrame pool.
FlexFrame for Oracle is also expected to reduce installation and maintenance efforts and manage quality of service. If a server fails, the Oracle service is restarted on another server.
The company claimed that by integrating Oracle VM, virtualisation technology that is certified to run Oracle products, FlexFrame for Oracle provides better resource utilisation and granularity. Organisations can integrate Oracle databases running with Oracle applications and non-Oracle applications such as SAP into FlexFrame for Oracle scenarios.
The new FlexFrame for Oracle extends the product’s availability to customers who need to start small and grow. Also new in FlexFrame for Oracle are new features such as application awareness and priority management.
Application awareness is said to provide monitoring capabilities for Oracle services and a live check with configurable restart/reboot options. In addition, it integrates into standard data centre management processes and connects to SNMP network management systems. The new version also features increased service availability with priority management that introduces service priorities, failover and displacement rules.
Rolf Strotmann, vice president of enterprise servers and software at Fujitsu Technology Solutions, said: The introduction of the new FlexFrame for Oracle release is the result of more than 15 years of collaboration between Fujitsu and Oracle. This solution consolidates Oracle environments to provide one infrastructure for all Oracle services. Now by integrating with Oracle VM, we can ensure high availability for both real and virtual servers.
