Built around the dual-core Intel Itanium 9100 processor for use in applications such as databases, ERP solutions, system restructuring, and scientific computing, Fujitsu said the PrimeQuest 540A and 580A servers combine the open-standard architecture of Itanium processors and Linux and Windows Server operating systems with the company’s hardware technology.

It said the new models offer increased front side bus clock frequency of 667 MHz, and include dynamic partitioning, which with systems running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.1 and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 makes it possible to balance workload among system boards while the systems are still running. In addition, with systems running Windows Server 2008, system boards can be swapped live in case of a failure, without interrupting the continuity of service.

The company said the 580A posted the fastest results in the industry on the two-tier SAP Sales and Distribution Standard Application Benchmark on a system running Microsoft Windows Server and the SAP ERP application Release 6.0.
