Systems integrator LVS Systems has completed the first stage of the multi-million dollar computerisation project of the State Duma in Moscow. In July 1994 LVS was awarded a contract by the Federal Agency of Government Communications and Information to perform overall project design, to supply the necessary computer and communications hardware and software, and to act as systems integrator. Under this contract, LVS is responsible for the design and implementation of the integrated computer network. The State Duma computer network comprises 50 local area networks serving Duma parties, committees, and other departments. The network environment includes about 300 miles of cabling. Fibre Distributed Data Interface star rings form the backbone of the network. The network’s 2,000 computers form a three-level network using servers from Compaq Computer Corp, Sun Microsystems Inc and Sequent Computer Systems Corp, as well as desktop and portable or laptop personal computers from Compaq. Other technology suppliers for the ambitious networked system include AMP Inc, Chipcom Corp, Cisco Systems Inc, 3Com Corp, Computer Crafts, FTP Software Inc, Motorola Inc, Ositech and Xylogics Inc.
