The US-based developer and publisher of leading titles such as EA Sports, FIFA, and Cricket, is planning to set up an office in India this year.
According to an EA spokesman, the company is confident of finding a larger market than expected as the hardware base in India continues to grow.
Gaming console providers such as Sony Corp and Nintendo Corp are starting to sell more products in the country that is widely tipped to be on the cusp of an consumer IT and telecommunications revolution.
EA however admits it will have to price its software carefully in India. Officials say they will follow local pricing strategies. The company remains undeterred by high levels of software piracy which it sees as becoming more suppressed as consumer awareness rises.
EA, which is headquartered in Redwood City, California, generated sales of $2.4bn last year. The company says it has shipped over 10bn programs worldwide.
