German firm Deutsche Telekom has introduced new cloud-based multi-party videoconferencing service ‘VideoMeet’ that connects practically any videoclient.
VideoMeet is a bridging videoconferencing offering to create interoperability between both business offerings like Cisco/Tandberg, Polycom, Lifesize and others, and light weight offerings such as Skype and Google Video Chat.
With the new videoconfrencing service, companies of all sizes can initiate multi-party videoconferences through smartphones, tablets or full-fledged HD room systems, allowing remote workers using other systems to dial into the videoconference.
VideoMeet users schedule, host, and manage meetings via an easy web interface through a personal and secure "meeting room" in the VideoMeet cloud. Participants can join meetings by dialling a number or clicking on a link to attend via video.
VideoMeet does not require any new hardware or software and users who does not have access to video can still participate in a VideoMeet session over audio from their phone, using a dedicated domestic number, said the comapny.
VideoMeet can be used with an IP and an ISDN-based connection, and Deutsche Telekom has introduced firewall traversal, which allows secure access between videoconferencing rooms behind a company firewall and any end point outside the company.
Deutsche Telekom Core Telco Products senior vice-president Rainer Deutschmann said to support "Video is the next voice" vision Deutsche Telekom introduces VideoMeet, the very first service that bridges different end-points.
"VideoMeet adheres to high security standards, and, as a genuine cloud service, it is simply scalable to the needs of our customers and does not require any investment. VideoMeet perfectly connects, for example, companies with distributed offices, home offices and traveling employees, as well as sales departments with their customers," said Deutschmann.
