Despite a high-profile launch in 2003, the Digital Jukebox range has failed to make any significant headway into Apple’s market share, with many analysts citing Apple’s brand strength and product innovation as key causes.

Dell’s decision to launch the player was a pivotal part of its plan to expand its desktop PC dominance into other markets, and it remains unclear to what extent this aim has been dented by the failure of the Digital Jukebox.

Dell has said it will now focus on its lower-cost, lower specification flash memory players such as the DJ Ditty.
