Digital Equipment Corp is shipping two new members of its RouteAbout branch office network system. RouteAbout is itself part of the company’s enVISN network architecture and is supported by DEC’s low-end clearVISN network management architecture. As to new products, RouteAbout E1, as its name suggests, is designed to connect remote offices with Ethernet local networks over ISDN Basic Rate services. With one Ethernet, and ISDN connection, it is to cost $2,500 for IP-only, and $2,900 for the multiprotocol version including IP, IPX, AppleTalk, DECnet, and Open Systems Interconnection protocols. The other new offering, the Route-About Central EW, is designed for use at central sites with multiple connections fanned in from remote sites. It supports two Ethernet and eight T1 connections, and costs $2,000 for the Internet Protocol version, and $9,000 for the multiprotocol version.
