Mark Hoffman, chief of Sybase Corp, where Apple Computer is investing for a stake of about 5% (CI No 753), says that while the Mac II will be needed to run full Sybase, a cut-down version will be developed for low-end Macs; he formed the company in 1984 with three other Britton-Lee Inc alumni, and reckons that products like Sybase on general-purpose hardware will obsolete specialist database boxes like those made by Britton-Lee.
