Compaq Computer Corp is set to launch a new range of Prosignia range of desktops, servers and notebooks on Friday that are aimed at the SME market in the UK. UK businesses have hitherto only had the choice from the higher-end Proliant servers, usually at least over 25% more expensive than Prosignia in the US. Prosignia boxes are designed to be more attractive to SMEs by cutting down on initial lay-out and amount of support needed. Compaq says UK SMEs account for 64% of the hardware marketplace, which begs the question: why hasn’t it sold them in the UK before? The Prosignia range has been available in the US for over a year, and the latest models were announced at the end of March in the US. The machines will be available from July 19.
