At the Enterprise Connect 2011 trade show, Cisco unveiled Jabber, a unified communications app that brings together presence, instant messaging (IM), voice and video, voice messaging, desktop sharing and conferencing into a single consistent experience across PCs, Macs, tablets and smartphones.
Jabber enables business workers to easily and securely find the right people, to see if and on what device they are available, and to collaborate using their preferred method or device.
In addition, Jabber, which is scheduled to roll out to Mac users starting this summer will provide users with a unified client they can deploy across on-premise and cloud-based options.
Jabber allows users to escalate from an IM conversation to a voice, video or desktop sharing interaction; and users can have immediate access and utilise these capabilities whether they are in or out of the office.
Further, Jabber integrates with video endpoints including Cisco’s Unified IP Phones, WebEx MeetingCenter and TelePresence connections.
Cisco unified communications business unit vice-president and general manager Laurent Philonenko said regardless of whether customers use Macs, PCs or mobile devices, they look for flexibility in how, where and on what device they can communicate using voice, video and instant messaging.
"With Cisco Jabber we are responding to this need by providing advanced capabilities and innovative user experiences that are available on the platform and device of their choosing," Philonenko said.
