Cisco has partnered with Microsoft to deliver data centre virtualisation offerings for Microsoft Windows Server "8" virtual environments.
Improved scalability and operational control of Microsoft Windows Server "8" virtual environments are obtained through the new offerings.
The Cisco Nexus 1000V distributed virtual switch and the Cisco Unified Computing System with Virtual Machine Fabric Extender (VM-FEX) capabilities will work with the Windows Server Hyper-V hypervisor to provide customers with Cisco networking features.
Cisco Nexus 1000V provide features like Cisco’s policy enforcement, automated provisioning and diagnostics, and also provides enhanced visibility, control and operational flexibility for Hyper-V environments, said Cisco.
The Cisco Nexus 1000V along with Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) management tools, enables network, virtualisation and server administrators to manage multi-tenant and mobile virtual environments.
Cisco claims that its Unified Computing System VM-FEX offers operational simplicity and performance in virtualised environments.
Cisco vice-president of Server, Access, and Virtualisation Technology Group Jackie Ross said together, Nexus 1000V and VM-FEX with Windows Server Hyper-V will provide the advanced controls and consistency with simplified management to help accelerate customers’ journey to the cloud.
