Westford, Massachusetts-based Cascade Communications Corp has added new functionality to its B-STDX 9000 Multiservice wide area network switch, enabling it to connect low-speed Frame Relay connections to high-speed Asynchronous Transfer Mode services. Specifically, the enhancement comprises implementation of FRF.5, the Frame Relay Forum’s standard for Asynchronous Transfer Mode internetworking, and an Asynchronous Transfer Mode UNI IO module for high-speed Asynchronous Transfer Mode trunking are supported. According to Cascade, the UNI module operates at T3 rates over Asynchronous Transfer Mode networks, and is to cost $30,000.
