Cadence Design Systems Inc is set to establish a new center of excellence for electronics in Europe, which is forecast to employ up to 1,800 engineers by the Year 2002, according to the company. The deal isn’t due to be officially announced until Wednesday, and Cadence isn’t letting on the location of what it is calling a new silicon valley. But reports suggest that Cadence has signed a joint venture with Scottish Enterprise, the Scottish development agency, and is looking to establish an advanced microchip research plant in Livingston, the Scottish silicon glen not far from Edinburgh. Along with the new plant, Cadence says it will establish the world’s first educational facility to train engineering students and professionals on next generation chip design techniques. Cadence is expected to invest around 100m pounds in the new plant.
