British Telecommunications Plc has approved a 300m pound plan to modernize its network to support the growth of the internet and data communications. The new scheme comes on top of the 2bn pounds that BT spends every year on network modernization and marks a growing realization by BT that it needs to give the internet a higher priority. Some analysts believe this is a better way forward for BT than seeking an American take-over.
