According to the Financial Times, a survey by Benchmark Research claims that British engineering companies spent UKP501m on computer hardware in 1988, with micros and workstations experiencing most growth; the number of workstation users grew by 70%, and personal computers by 50% to 50,000; the survey also predicts that companies will increase software spend to UKP286m in the next year, with UKP189m going on peripherals, and UKP89m on consultancy.
