Reports in the press – which originated in Computer Reseller News – suggest that Bay Networks Inc’s president and CEO Andrew Ludwick has left the company. The reason given is that the two companies that merged to form Bay, Wellfleet Communications Inc and SynOptics Communications Inc, have yet to become a completely unified force, and that the contingent from Wellfleet are blaming their opposite numbers from SynOptics for Bay’s failure to dominate the switching market. As the former SynOptics president and CEO, Ludwick is said to be taking most of the blame. Bay’s policy is not to comment on rumor, so the company will not say

whether Ludwick’s departure is imminent – although the statement that he has already left was categorically denied. Playing down the internal conflict story, a spokesman pointed out that the employees left over from the Wellfleet-SynOptics days are now firmly outnumbered by those who have joined since the merger.
