Banyan Systems Inc, Westborough, Massachusetts is now shipping its ENS Enterprise Network Services software running under HP-UX, following through on a plan originally announced in May last year. The software is to run on top of Hewlett-Packard’s 9000 Series 800 PA-RISC-based servers and is intended to enable users to combine their Unix- and personal computer-based networks. Banyan says that Enterprise Network Services has been implemented in its entirety, including the StreetTalk III Directory Service and StreetTalk Directory Assistance, Security, Intelligent Messaging and network management, as well as file and print sharing capabilities. The Enterprise Network Services for HP-UX application server is to cost $6,000, while prices range from $7,000 for 20 users to $66,000 for 1,000 users. Simultaneously, Banyan announced how Enterprise Network Services for HP-UX is to be marketed: while it is to be sold through Banyan’s Premier Network Integrators in the US, in Europe it is to be sold jointly through Hewlett-Packard and Banyan sales teams, resellers and system integrators. Frontline support will come via Hewlett-Packard’s Response Centres, while Banyan says that it is to provide back-up, as well as training and support to the Hewlett-Packard Response Centres. As previously announced, Banyan is scheduled to launch versions of the Enterprise Network Services software for the Sparc and IBM Corp AIX systems over the next few months.
