Engineering, construction and services group Balfour Beatty WorkPlace has selected 1E to help it reduce energy waste and decrease carbon emissions from PCs that are not being used.

In the Balfour Beatty 2020 sustainability vision, Balfour Beatty Workplace will play its part by reducing the equivalent Green House Gas (GHG) emissions of 27 cars in the first year alone, which is the equivalent electricity usage of 21 homes.

Balfour Beatty WorkPlace IT project manager Alex Playford said 1E’s NightWatchman Enterprise helps Balfour Beatty WorkPlace track when PCs are left on out of normal working hours.

"The sophisticated reports help us see where and when energy wastage is occurring. More than that, it actively and automatically shuts those machines down for us to save unnecessary energy use," said Playford.

Playford added: "As a group, we had a weighted score of 900.5 in the CRC Performance League Table this year, a score which we will be actively looking to improve in the coming year. With NightWatchman Enterprise, which will contribute towards achieving that goal, we can monitor and drive the savings now and in the future."

"The reports, which quantify how much money, carbon and electricity we are saving, make our investment to date justifiable for our business at a time when energy prices are rising and organisations are being mandated to reduce their carbon emissions."
