AT&T-Unisource Communications Services, the European joint venture of AT&T Corp and Unisource NV, is to build a major part of the high-speed Internet network supported by the European Commission in a project called TEN-34. The trans-European network will be based on asynchronous transfer mode technology, with a capacity of at least 34Mbit/s. The AT&T-Unisource part of the network will initially connect Spain, Switzerland, Germany, The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the Nordic countries. The network will form part of the National University Networks and will enable researchers to use multimedia and real-time applications such as video-conferencing.
