With Plan 9 code effectively frozen a year ago in preparation for its release last week, the AT&T Bell Laboratories team is already working on other technologies that use Plan 9’s networking and distributed services as a base. There’s work under way to create new tightly-coupled distributed computing mechanism and Phil Winterbottom already has a 300Mbps packet-switched network up and running. Rob Pike is developing a new graphics model that will include integrated support for technology such as video calls, conferencing and MPEG.
