ArrowPoint Communications has announced that its Content Smart web server switches have been certified to interoperate with Network Appliance’s NetCache. ArrowPoint’s switches have already been certified for use with Inktomi’s Traffic Server, a high-end software alternative to NetApp’s caching hardware (CI No 3,520). Meanwhile Cisco Systems Inc has said it will license its Cisco IOS software web cache communication protocol (WCCP) specification to other cache vendors. Originally developed to transparently redirect packets from Cisco IOS routers to Cisco Cache Engines, the protocol can be made to redirect packets from any router to any cache. The first vendors to step up to the plate are, Inktomi and Network Appliance.
