Amdahl Corporation said yesterday it had created a Telecoms Business Group to help telecommunications service suppliers to capitalize on new opportunities. It will provide hardware, software and systems integration services and solutions. The group has also signed a reseller agreement with CrossZ Software and will liaison with DMR Consulting Group, the Amdahl professional services company. Mike Orr, vice president and general manager of the Amdahl Telecom Business Group, says the formation of the new company will reinforce Amdahl’s ability to meet the business needs of this fast-paced and technology-dependent industry, adding that co-operation with CrossZ Software and the DMR Consulting Group will give the Telecom Business Group a combination of technology and talent. Amdahl will use CrossZ QueryObject business tools to access, extract and refine terabytes of customer call detail records into highly compact multidimensional QueryObject datamarts which can be distributed and accessed by Windows NT – base users. Then DMR consultants will move the summarized data and use its Datawork- Comm data warehouse framework, integrating the QueryObject date with industry and demographic specific data to generate the information needed for critical sales and marketing decisions. Amdahl has been a presence in the telecommunications field for the past 15 years when it met the industry’s need with for a mainframe Unix operating system with the Amdahl UTS system. Cross/Z Software develops and markets a set of end-user data mining tools to analyze massive corporate data warehouses. This is possible through the company’s Query Object technology. Based in Mitchell Field, New York, CrossZ Software is a private company and employs 75 staff.
