As part of the new desktop platform, AMD has unveiled a new Sub-$100 quad-core processor aimed at the upcoming Window 7.
The company claims that the new Athlon II X4 620 processor to deliver superior multitasking performance allowing mainstream users to do more in less time.
According to AMD, the Mainstream Desktop Platform leverages its software to help enhance the overall experience. ATI Stream technology is expected to enable hardware acceleration that can speed HD video conversion-time, enabling content to be ready for use on-the-go.
AMD said, by balancing the power of new Athlon II X4 quad-core processors and the 785G chipset featuring ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics, it will deliver smooth HD visuals and the foundation for a Windows 7 experience.
The company said that combining the efficiency of 45nm processors and this platform’s built-in power management technologies, an AMD Athlon II processor-based platform can serve-up a Blu-ray movie experience using less energy.
With this second generation commercial platform, its partners can offer a variety of form factors with energy efficiency and visual productivity. This platform also has support for essential manageability, security and virtualisation features, the company said.
